Cheap and tasty @ Star Pieces, Klang

Good food comes in high price..not anymore. With the mushrooming of modern chic eateries cum cafe all over Klang Valley , competition is high and the proprietors often comes out with new ways to attract crowds.

With current inflations and high cost of living...the key to success is low price. See Air Asia 's results ?? See Giant ?? Carrefour and Tesco ?????

How about RM3.90++ for a main course for lunch ???? Not just any simple lunch but a complete meal with 2 side dishes ???

A good variety of choice to go for. The Lemon Chicken is good, as well as Black Peper chicken is highly recommended too. But this time I selected the Taiwanese style ( Sam Piu Kai ), but this the sauce is nothing close to the original Sam Pui Kai which we normally has. But this isnt bad too.

Generous portion of Taiwanese chicken. Below, Sweet and sour fish, not bad either.

Total damage for 2 person for 2 sets inclusing 1 mineral water and a Jasmine green tea is RM13.64 only.

Chic and Balinese inspired interior makes it a good place to hang-out. Check out the live band at night.
Location : 2-4 , Jalan Kasawari 5 , Taman Eng Ann, Klang TEL : 03-3343 3338

Af the T junction turn right and you would see the Star Pieces on your right. Directly opposite a chinese school.

Merdeka Eve !!!!

Its Merdeka eve today !!!! Means what ?????? Its holiday tomorrow...for most of them..but not for me . As I have to to be on duty tonight, guarding the monkeys in disguise as party revellers in Dataran Merdeka tonight. Every year during eve on public holidays like Merdeka and New Years Eve, I've been on duty in hot spots like KLCC and Bukit Bintang and without fail I am force to make arrest on some dick-heads who's gone over the limit and fighting while celebrating.

Every year without fail places like Dataran Merdeka and KLCC would be out of control. Dataran would be full of 'the future leaders of the superior race' , Mat rempits, Mat Minah , Bohsia's enjoying free concerts and shows and the occasionally fights between gangs are normal. Worst is KLCC, where the Mat Gondols would arrive in packs. Sporting long hairs with gang coloured T shirts with designs like scorpion and skulls would dominate the gardens of KLCC, these Indonesians mostly comprising of constructions workers are a sight to behold. FRU are stationed instead of GD personnels , as fights between ethnics are common. What we are looking here are fights among their countrymen itself between races like Jawa's, Aceh and Minangs ( just an example ). And when FRU's comes into action...nothing is hold back. This would show them that who is in power and not to fight in my country. You cant blame us to use force on them..as once things get out of hand.... you'll hoped that we were here earlier. Like the word says ' Fight fire with fire ".

Lets hope tonight would be a peaceful night of celebration to welcome our nations 50th birthday and not to welcome some dick heads into the lock-ups day. I don't wan to make any arrest for which means I have to spend another few hours doing a report...all I wan after my duty is a good night sleep and a much deserve rest. Sometimes I would wonder what the monkeys think in their head when they wanna pick up a fight during celebrations ???? To them do they feel macho , as if they are the strongest of the pack when they whack up some poor fellows till they drop ???? For me if I get to arrest the street fighter, I'll give the dick head a good slap on his face and show him who's in charge and definitely I'll ask him what satisfaction does he gets from whacking the shit out of a poor fella !!!!

Lets hope tonights celebration would be a peaceful wan ..................

Stupid lame jokes

Received this i my mail today..........

The 1st Affair:

A married man was having an affair with his secretary.

One day they went her place and made love all afternoon. Exhausted, they fell asleep and woke up at
8pm

The man hurriedly dressed and told his lover to take his shoes outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.

He put on his shoes and drove home.

"Where have you been?" his wife demanded.

"I can't lie to you," he replied, "I'm having an affair with my secretary. We had sex all afternoon."

"You lying bastard!

You'veen playing golf!"

The 2nd Affair:

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters but always talked about having a son.

They decided to try one last time for the son they always wanted.

The wife got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy.

The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new son.

He was horrified at the ugliest child he had ever seen.

He told his wife, "There's no way I can be the father of this baby. Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered! Have you been fooling around behind my back?"

The wife smiled sweetly and replied, "Not this time!"

The 3rd Affair:

A mortician was working late one night.

He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz, about to be cremated, and made a startling discovery. Schwartz had the largest private part he had ever seen!

"I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz," the mortician commented, "I can't allow you to be cremated with such an impressive private part. It must be saved for posterity."

So, he removed it, stuffed it into his briefcase, and took it home.

"I have to show you something you won't believe," he said to his wife, opening his briefcase.

"My God!" the wife exclaimed, "Schwartz is dead?!?!

The 4th Affair:

A woman was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband opening the front door.

"Hurry," she said, "stand in the corner."

She rubbed baby oil all over him, then dusted him with talcum powder.

"Don't move until I tell you," she said. "Pretend you're a statue."

"What's this?" the husband inquired as he entered the room.

"Oh it's a statue." she replied. "The Smith's bought one and I liked it so much I got one for us, too."

No more was said, not even when they went to bed.

Around
2 AM the husband got up, went to the kitchen and returned with a sandwich and a beer.

"Here," he said to the statue, "have this. I stood like that for two days at the Smith's and nobody offered me a damned thing."

The 5th Affair:

A man walked into a cafe, went to the bar and ordered a beer.

"Certainly, Sir, that'll be one cent."

"One Cent?" the man thought.

He glanced at the menu and asked, "How much for a nice juicy steak and a bottle of wine?"

"A nickel," the barman replied.

"A nickel?" exclaimed the man. "Where's the guy who owns this place?"

The bartender replied, "Upstairs, with my wife."

The man asked, "What's he doing upstairs with your wife?"

The bartender replied,

"The same thing I'm doing to his business down here."

The 6th Affair:

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside.

He looked up and said weakly, "I have something I must confess."

"There's no need to," his wife replied.

"No," he insisted, "I want to die in peace. I slept with your sister, your best friend, her best friend, and your mother!"

"I know, I know," she replied. "Now just rest and let the poison work

Korean food @ Sunway

Its been ages since I last had a Korean meal . There was only a handful of Korean restaurants back then as far as I can remember, but its been mushrooming lately especially after Dai Jong Kam movie craze..and even a restaurant is named after her.

With some Korean restaurant wannabe mushrooming around, its time to give this Korean restaurant try and see whether does it makes the mark, compares my fav at the old corner bungalow in Ampang ( opposite Ampang Point) . Anyone knows where it has moved ???

Meet up with few of my close fren for a dinner here in Woo Ga CHon in Sunway Mentari. Arrived at about 8pm and almost half of the restaurant is already filled up. What I like in Korean food is the variety of side dishes it has to offer..and the best part is that it's free !! But the line-up isnt so impressive as the Ampang bungalow. The steam egg is too cooked and turns out hard. Test 1 ...... 5/10.

Top : Beef was fresh though...nice 8/10 Bottom: Good lamb though. Another 8/10

This hot pot summer wild rice was a dissapointment though. Practically tasteless , though we see some ginseng , dates and also some pak kor ( lotus seed ). Is it they forget to add in salt or issit is to be eaten on its own like it is ??? Deserves a mere 3/10 for the effort.

This hot stone bibimbap with pork is so much better than the former. However still far off my fav place. Deserves a 6/10 though .

This Kimchi is really a dissapointment. It lacks the texture and the kick from the added spices.

At last something is good.the Shoju ( 19.8% proof). Note that someone is trying to act funny and cute ? She is cute , aint she ??

And also good company............... Left : Guess who am I ??? Right : Ever playful Ivin and Oli

One thing this place emerges winner is the price. Total damage for 6person , inclusive of 4 servings of BBQ, 2 rice , 2 Bulgogi a bottle of Shoju and all those free side dish only adds up to RM231, which is really affordable. However they need to buck up more on their service, as they are really short handed.

Location : Sunway Mentari. Just next to the former ProJet Station ( now Shell ). Same row facing the main road.

Direction : As you are coming in from Federal Highway, turn left into Sunway area. Instead of going up the bridge to LDP, made a u turn below the bridge , heading back to Kurnia building direction. Make a left turn at the junction and at the cross junction turn right. This restaurant is located in the new shops on the left next to EPL coffee shop, directly next to the new Shell station ( former Projet )

Hungry Ghost Festival

Just as Halloween is for Americans, the ‘Hungry Ghost festival’ is for the Chinese. For those who have never heard of this festival, here are the essential ‘spooky’ facts on this festival.

Hungry Ghost festival is a popular occasion that is taken very seriously by the Chinese. This festival that falls on the 7th month of the lunar New Year is celebrated mainly in China and other countries like Singapore & Malaysia. It is believed by the Chinese that during this month, the gates of hell are opened to free the hungry ghosts who then wander to seek food on Earth. Some even think that the ghosts would seek revenge on those who had wronged them in their lives. The reason why the Chinese celebrate this festival is to remember their dead family members and pay tribute to them. They also feel that offering food to the soulless deceased appeases them and wards off bad luck. This is also known as Phor Tor in Hokkien

Another belief among the Chinese is that the dead return to visit their living relatives during the 7th month and thus they prepare a sumptuous meal for the ‘hungry ghosts’.

As a native Hokkien, we celebrated the Phor Tor on the 15th of the Chinese lunar calender, with offerings of chicken, ducks, meats, fruits, ciggies etc for the souless which we known them as " Hor Hniah Tee " or good brothers, in return for a safe working environment and business prosperity. Not being left out is also the Datuk-kong , which the offerings need to be halal.

All this being ended with burning of gold joss paper.

Kampar Steamed Vegetable dumpling

Every one knows this man in Kampar, as he would make his round everyday on his trusty old motorbike with a speaker blasting " Ham Kok Chai........ Ham Kok Chai " on his back. If you miss him on his round, he can still be located in Fai Hoong Restaurant located the Kampar market.

This delicious dumpings is filled with sengkuang , some carrots and small dried shrimps, which would manage to bring out the sweetness of the sengkuang in it. Topped with sesame seeds and goes witha a fiery hot chilli sauce..its trully a match made in heaven !!! AT 25 sen a piece its a steal.

Its been a while since I laid my hand on this Kok Chai, thanks to my dad who brought home 25 boxes of it in his last trip to Penang ( yes he detoured into Kampar for this ). Since I already hooked up with Mikemmery and Kenny Ng for tea at Sri Neela at Taman Desa, Old Klang Road, I brought along a pack for them to savour. I tried ti quiz Mike on what I brought for them and he instantly recognize the chilli sauce !!!! Sorry Mike ,if this brought back some memories of Kampar !!!!

"Hmm , da project worth 2 billion... we half half ok ??? ".. hehe serious discussion....actually about photography and cameras !!

The night continues with a great tok-kok session with both of them bout anything under the sun from floods, to camera and music . Kenny also gave us a great mini seminar on photography and camera's !!!!

Lontong- Treasure from south

Its the Merdeka month..and being a patriotic and a true Malaysian, guess that it's time for me to write up something about our delicious local Malaysian food. I admit that I like Malay food, especially kampung type.

To start of with our local treasure, we have something from da south. Something I always take for breakfast, looking for lontong is hard in KL ... somemore a good lontong.

Lontong is a favourite breakfast item in the south . Its namely a dish made out from nasi himpit ( ketupat like ) and eaten with a yellowish creamy coconut and kunyit(turmeric) based soup loaded with vegetables, tempeh ( made out of fermented beans ) and eaten with hard boiled eggs and a dash of sambal for the extra kick.

Traditionally eaten with hard boiled eggs, but its common taken with sambal sotong. For me the ultimate companion is with Paru goreng bersambal ( fried beef lungs with sambal) . I know its high in cholestrol...but good food is always unhealthy !!!! Think of hokkien mee with extra lards, Char kuey Teow , Bah Kut Teh..its always rated highly in terms of fat and cholestrol......but being a truely Malaysian...tasty food always comes first.

Where to eat : Jalan 6/37 A Taman Bukit Maluri Industry Park, Kepong, KL. Its the 2nd warong located directly opposite Sang Kee Oil Industries.

Open Monday - Saturday for breakfast and lunch. For lontong only available for breakfast. Best before 9 am as its fast disappearing into the stomach of the morning crowd !!!! Expect to pay RM2.50 to RM3.50 depending on the serving and your condiments.

Cheap and tasty Jap food !!! Oishi !!!!

Its been a while that I've eaten in this Tenka Daichi Ramen ( literally means Worlds No 1 Ramen restaurant ) . I used to frequent this place quite frequently which serves great tasting Japanese food at an affordable price. This small and comfortable ryori is run by a Malaysian chinese guy with a beautiful Japanese wife. Lucky man indeed !!!!

As the name suggest, they serves a variety of good ramen , judging from the amount of Japanese customers, they ought to be serving good stuff. But being a faithfull man I am , I always ended up with Pork Katsu set ( Ton-Katsu setto). At only RM10.90 its a steal. It also comes with a rice , a side tofu and a clear yakame soup ( seaweed soup )

An0ther set worth trying is their Unagi set ( RM20 ) , which according to my fren its really
tasty. Another 2 fren ordered a fried bitter gourd with bonito flakes set and anothet had a Cha Gohan to Gyoza setto ( Fried rice n Gyoza set RM 11.90 ), which unfortunately I didnt manage to take any photos , no thanks to their hunger pang, as its about 9pm. The total bill only came out to RM62.70 inclusive of ocha's and taxes.

So off to the shelf and found my old trusted Indomie mee goreng.... guess what had a double with a fried egg and luncheon meat !!! A completely wholesome ' Chan Tan Mee " !!!!!

Its been a while since I fried ann egg, but thanks god it turns out perfectly just the way I like it, as the yolk is not too runny and just turns solid and creamy and retained its orange center. Its so creamy..hmm.yummy. Ended up with 3 pieces of leftover luncheon meat which was fried till perfectly crisp on the outside !!!

My favoutite instant noodle :-

1) Maggi Mee - tomyam , curry and assam laksa flavour
2) Tung-1 instant abalone and chicken meehoon
3) Indomie Mee goreng Asli

Sanctuary @ Curve

Yesterday was spent @ Sanctuary meeting up with my bunch or friends for happy hour. This bunch were from my clubbing gang when we at our hey days partying off our weekends spoiling our liver and contaminating our lungs during the Viva times. Reached The Curve @ 8pm , and not till 8.30 that I get my parking. I could still remember the days when getting a parking space in Curve was a breeze then..but not now anymore.

Even the disabled parking was not spared !!! Hm..wondering whats did this owner get for Moral ???

As the nite grew, more and more frens turned up to make this a really enjoyable outing for me.
Mike was also there with his colleagues , who happen to be at my next table.Better still some long lost ex kaki of my Viva era , like the ever seductive Jessica and her sister Cindy , Kelly , Chris Too , Alan Lim etc......... also my 3 lovely angels namely Tammie ,Oli and Amelia .

What is a trip to Sanctuary without getting into Ice Bar ???? Well this is my first time actually to Ice Bar . Its so freaking cold inside at -15c and the whole bunch tried to be macho by not wearing the jackets provided. Luckily the shooters of vodka helps to warm us up !!!!!

However the party was busted with a visit from my brothers in blues, who decided to pay a surprised visit to check on peeps poisoning themselves with designer drugs like eramin and 5's . As I went home early, I was not subjected to check,,but one of my fren ( identity protected ) was not so lucky as she was picked up for urine test randomly. But thanks god the results came our negative.

Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) JB

Every trip down south , I really look foward for a meal in this restaurant. This Restoran Todak ( Orang Asli) seems to be a favourite for our neighbour's judging from the amount of Singaporean cars parked outside. First things which comes into our mind is that it's gonna be expensive, but trust me its very reasonable priced compares to KL. With our Ringgit heading down south, its a steal for our lucky neighbours.

The restaurant is also offers a nice view of.............................Singapore's Sembawang ship yard!!! This beach side restaurant build on stilts over looking Singapore. One word of advice, check your handphone signal as you might receive Singapore's signal and you maybe be charged for Singapore calls !!!!!!!

The concept here is based on the HK styled seafood restaurant wher live seafood is displayed out in individual tanks for your perusal. Here you will find giant sizes cockles ( kerang ) the size of a tennis ball !!!! True, I couldnt believe my eyes too !! You shoud really try their fried butter sotong here..its really tasty with the smooth butter taste embedded in their crispy batter. This one is definetely my favourite. We also had a teochew styled steam Siakap which is really fresh ( RM45/kg).

Wat is seafood without crab ?? Had sweet and sour XL Indonesian crab here is reasonably
priced at RM60/kg compares to Green View in SS2,PJ which charges exhorbitant prices for their crabs. But unfortunately the taste never came close to Greenview. Other wise the crab is really fresh and succulent . Should have follow the captains recommendations and go for the Black Pepper Crabs..their signature dish.

Also we had the normal seafood fare like BoiledPrawns ( RM90/kg) , fried seafood tofu ( RM12), Thai styled Japanese snail (RM45/kg), fried vegetable and 3 plates fried mamak mee goreng. This being a Chinese restaurant really dish out a mean mamak styled mee goreng .

For deserts we had fried ice creams !!! This one is really appeal to me, as they use bread as the base and coated with crispy flour and deep fried and its not too oily, and the ice cream remains frozen inside, unlike some who fried it and put the ice cream back in the freezer tobe refrozen which leaves the fried batter soggy.

For a table of ten 12 dishes inclusive of tea and govt taxes the bill only comes out to RM390. And the service is really fast with the first dish coming after 10 minutes of ordering, taking into consideration that its crowded by the time we get there.

Oh yes, its halal too.

Address : 1, Kg Orang Asli , Telok Jawa , Masai, 81750 , Johor Baru

Directions : Drive along Pasir Gudang highway towards the port. Exit at Seri Alam junction and turn right across into the housing estate. Reach the first traffic light go straight all the way. Then follow the sign board passing through a housing estate . To be safe...call for directions !!!!
