Elephant Sanctuary, Kuala Gandah,Pahang
The only one of its kind in Malaysia, the sanctuary is base for the Elephant Relocation team, a group dedicated to locating and rescuing elephants from areas where their habitat are encroached by plantations and other human developments to other suitable areas suitable. The elephant sanctuary was eatablished in 1989 by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
Beside being base for the translocation Kuala Gandah , also aims to promote public awareness of the elephants plight in Malaysia and to support research into elephants translocation, educate the public about the importance of habitat and environmental . Visitors are welcomed throughout the year to ride the elphants , feeding and washing them. Best of all being able to help in conservation and creating public awareness , its FOC !!.
A family outing by Lions Club of Damansara was organized on 4th September to this sanctuary and nearby Deerland as part of their annual outing cum educational trip for the children's from Angels Home.

Have tickets would travel. The red sticker to enter and yellow ones for activities with elephants. Please note that only limited yellow stickers are given out each session. Be early or be squared !

Famous VJ Hannah Tan was also seen recording there for Astro's Travel and Adventure. Dunno would see myself on TV or not ???? Right : Hmm...... Beauty and the beast.

Before visiting the elephant sanctuary we also visited the nearby deerland. Entrance ticket was RM 5 for adults and RM3 for children. Nothing much to see though........

How to get there :
Take the east Coast Kl-Kuantan ( aka Karak Highway ) and exit at Lanchang . After toll take a right turn . At T junction take another left turn and follow the sign board.
